Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the girls referred to as “Pearls”?

Our student members are affectionately known as 'Pearls'—a timeless symbol of growth, resilience, and beauty, reflecting the enduring legacy of our namesake, Hanan. At the completion of the program, our Senior Pearls receive a set of cultured pearls.

I am a student and want to participate with the Hanan Foundation, is it free?

Yes! All Foundation sponsored events and activities are free to attend.

What if I need transportation to an event or activity?

At the moment, the Waco Hanan Foundation does not provide transportation to or from events.

What is a “Pearl Party?”

Pearl Parties are monthly events hosted by the foundation, where our Pearls are invited into a safe and welcoming space to connect, share, and grow together. These gatherings are filled with meaningful activities designed to nurture community and sisterhood. (Examples of some of our 2025/2026 Pearl Parties are game night, Cooking Classes, and Paint night)

How often do the students meet?

The Waco Hanan Foundation will host three events a month. The community Check-in, a skill-building activity, and a volunteer opportunity.

Why are volunteer hours required?

A vital part of the Hanan Foundation is exposing girls to the needs of the Waco community. We will host monthly volunteer activities that students may choose to participate in. All volunteer events are chaperoned and completed as a group. Volunteer activities are also strongly encouraged for students looking to build strong resumes and character.

What adults are involved in the Waco Hanan Foundation?

The WHF works alongside Waco community members. The WHF only allows female mentors/volunteers who have completed a background check.

I am a parent or educator and have children I would like to recommend to the program, what should I do?
